Where are we on the charity guitar for St. Judes? Also I will need a list of contributors and luthiers to list on the lable. There will not be room to state what each did but rather a list of contributing luthiers. No rush.

I'm in for the fret job, so I have a while to wait.

Currently there is no one that I know of that is heading the charge - I have the sides, and have talked with Paul Davis and providing there are no objectives we are going to do a butt joint for the neck, that leaves out any room for error.

Lance could you make a sticky topic asking everyone involved, be it material contributor or fabrication work to sign in I will copy after a week to give everyone a chance to ping in.

That way I can get a complete listing for the label. I don't need a list of what you are contributing or doing, just who is involved

Thanks

The one thing that I'm not %100 clear on is exactly who is doing what and where the parts are, I know what Craig is doing and Lance and I have chatted. What we need is a list and itenerary so we can see what's going on, that way I can make sure to get my part done on time (there's alot of stuff going on in my life that could impact this so I want to get my portion done in time)...

Cheers

We are not working on the build but Bruce Dickey and I are contributing the pickup.

My contribution was the red heart abalone for the rosette.

I sent the sides to Lance and backs to Paul Woolson. Didn't send any bindings or perfling yet which I think are bloodwood. Don't know if we need a backsrtip or not or if the bindings are with b/m perfling.

I'm joining/bracing the back. Then I think the sides and top are coming to me and I'm closing the box up and sending it on for binding. Bob C. I was told there is not going to be a backstrip.

OK Thanks Paul. Then I guess bindings and perf's go to Don Williams.

John are we using the bloodwood m/b for the finger board? Wish I would have known I could have shipped with the fb.

Post subject:

yep. I was kinda surprised you didn't ship it with the fingerboard, but it
was too late to say anything so I thought I'd just wait. Sorry man.

I'm the one who has been charged with contacting St. Jude's but I need to give them a time frame to better coordinate exactly how to "dispose" of the guitar.

I have asked for time frames but have been unable to get a clear answer. Given the variety of responses, may I assume that the guitar is underway but not far enough along to estimate a completion date (year and season would be close enough)?

If anyone wonders why I don't simply tell them what we are doing, the reason is simple. I have worked with charities in the past and if they smell blood (or money! ) we (read: me) will be hounded for a date which means I'll be hounding you and I don't want to do that. You might throw things at me .

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what St Jude's does very highly but I am familiar with the auxillaries that stage the fundraisers and auctions (both silent and live). They set goals and pity the poor soul who gets in their ways (At this point, let me point out that my wife of 28 years is one such fundraiser so please don't take my observations too seriously).

Ideally, the guitar would be completed at a time where it could be auctioned via eBay at Christmas 2006 under the auspices of St. Jude's. The auction would receive prominence and (hopefully!) some notoriety. They, not we have the ability, should it exist to get some press on other than at local level. Let's face it, this noteriety would be good for all concerned but especially the kids because it would mean more money.

That is my plan, if anyone has a better idea please feel free to PM me (if I won't want to hear it! )

Regards to all and my congrats to those who are contributing their time and labor. I know how precious those limited resources are...

I plan on buying the truss rod, and sending it to the designated party. I'm just waiting to get an address.

I believe I am the neck guy so the truss rod can come to me. I have not started on the neck because I don't know what the design/specs are. I can start as soon as someone clues me in.

By that I mean:
truss rod design and adjustment direction
Scale
Headstock design
Nut & Saddle width
Heel attachment method & dimensions
etc.......John How38631.751712963

scale is 25.5

nut width is 1.750

Once I get the binding I can have the fretboard done within a week.

i had sent a pm earlier but i'm supplying the nut and saddle and doing the setup. if the rate the olf guitar is progressing is any sort of a guideline we definitely don't want to be making any time committments to st jude's.

is there a preference between unbleached bone and ivory? they look very much the same and i have recently read somewhere that the bone is supposed to be harder, but the ivory is available if desired.

and as we have no idea what the preferences are of the end user i propose setting the action at what might be considered a medium factory level, i.e., 016"-.024" and 3/64"-6/64". alternatively we cold await hearing what the owner would like and tweak the action then.

Friday I will start work on the label. full names will be used, not user-id. There will still be time to revise, but if possible, It is much easer to plan the label if I know what names are going on up front. So please check to make sure that you are on the list. Monday I will tell Lance to remove this sticky topic
